I got some new counting pins from @jerseygirlstitc I got some new counting pins from @jerseygirlstitchco and I promise more photos when the light is better. But now my bluebird has a bluebird friend.

I'm a little under the weather, but I still got a little done on my #Avonlea sampler for #samplerseptember
The weekend has been beset with technical difficul The weekend has been beset with technical difficulties. But I DID promise to share my attempt at Master Craftsman certification with @ega_usa and so I did start on that. I've designed my own sampler, with an Anne of Green Gables theme, and printed out the cart to work from. I made some thread drops, prepped my fabric, and started stitching. It is, after all, #samplerseptember

Although I'm starting to think that I might have to scrap this one, given that the silk floss I'm using isn't perhaps laying perfectly. I'll go some more before I decide. If it's not working out, I may finish it, and design something else to stitch in cotton for my entry. Because I'm not sure I want to do this one twice and I already hav all the silks...

All in prep for pursuing the EGA masterwork certificate in counted threadwork. The overdyed cotton is for some other small projects.

I should still get a blog post and a podcast episode out this weekend, so stay tuned!
Researching an upcoming podcast on soil communitie Researching an upcoming podcast on soil communities from the perspective of a microbiologist, listening to a couple recent episodes of Old Fashioned On Purpose by @jill.winger along with a trip to places with deep family roots led to some thoughts on how communities of people are like soil communities and feed each other.

Go visit the blog, and the Bluestocking Bower therein. Tell me what you think. Are you rooted in genuine community?
I got to listen to @jill.winger this weekend at Th I got to listen to @jill.winger this weekend at The Homestead Festival. It was great to get to hear her in person. She was so gracious, and even signed TWO book plates - one for her cookbook, and one for her new book, that I've preordered.

I'm such an introvert, I didn't even think to ask for a picture WITH her. So this is what you get. :-)

Today's vintage shopping score - a chicken scratch Today's vintage shopping score - a chicken scratch apron, plus two lengths of vintage gingham fabric in the same size check. The pleated waistband was something I've never seen before, even if the embroidery itself was a bit on the simple side.

So now I'm trying to decide if this wants to be a project for the blog, or if I should try to put together an article to pitch to Piecework magazine. What do you think?
